london riots

London braced on Sunday for more violence after some of the worst riots in the British capital for years which politicians and police blamed on criminal thugs but residents attributed to local tensions and anger over hardship.

Rioters throwing petrol bombs rampaged overnight through the deprived district of Tottenham in north London, setting police patrol cars, buildings and a double-decker bus on fire.

"There is Twitter conversations that people are being asked to meet again down in Tottenham, so we are all concerned but clearly we will be much better prepared this evening," Richard Barnes, London's Deputy Mayor, told BBC TV.

Police Commander Adrian Hanstock told Reuters there was "a lot of ill-informed and inaccurate speculation on social media sites" that could inflame the situation.

"Should we receive any indication that there will be any further violence or offending, there is a robust policing plan in place and we will respond appropriately with the resources available to us," he said.

Police later said they were called to Enfield, a few miles north of Tottenham, where youths had smashed two shop windows and damaged a police car. "Not a riot, but serious disturbance," the local member of parliament (MP) Nick de Bois wrote on his Twitter site.

BOMBARDED WITH MISSILES, BOTTLES

Police said 26 officers were injured as rioters bombarded them overnight with missiles and bottles, looted buildings including banks, shops and council offices, and torched three patrol cars near Tottenham police station.

The riots erupted after a street protest over the fatal shooting of a man by armed police this week. Residents said they had to flee their homes as mounted police and riot officers on foot charged the crowd to push rioters back.

Emma Watson Kissing Johnny Simmons photo

“Harry Potter” star Emma Watson has been spotted kissing Hollywood hunk Johnny Simmons.

Emma Watson, the British actress who plays Hermione Granger in the recently completed “Harry Potter” movie franchise, looks very much loved up with Johnny Simmons. He is her co-star in her upcoming movie “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.”

Watson is certainly no wallflower! The pair were snapped kissing passionately, out in public in Santa Monica over the weekend.

Wearing a patchwork maxi shirt and figure hugging black camisole under a casual summer cardigan, Watson got up close and personal with the actor. Then the two of them lunched together. Their tender kiss was shared right outside the restaurant.

Who started the kiss? Emma Watson did! Onlookers report that she reached up her face to kiss Johnny Simmons and he gazed at her in adoration, before pulling her in to a tender embrace, their hands on each others’ waists.

Emma Watson and Johnny Simmons were first identified as a couple in May, when they were seen walking through a park in Pittsburgh together. At the time they strongly denied that they were in a relationship together. Watson’s agent even dismissed speculation as “complete fiction.”

But either they were lying, or things have moved on a lot since May, because Emma and Johnny looked very much a couple in Santa Monica this weekend.

Simmons, who co-starred with Megan Fox in the 2009 flick “Jennifer’s Body,” is Watson’s first boyfriend since she split with “One Night Only” singer George Craig last year.

You will have to wait until next year to see Emma Watson and Johnny Simmons on screen together in “The Perks of Being a Wallflower.” The movie, based on the novel by Stephen Chbosky, about freshman Charlie’s introduction to sex and drugs, is scheduled for release in 2012.

But for now, we have the kiss!

AMD confirms tablet-friendly Z-series APU, next-gen Trinity APU for bigger devices

amd-computex

AMD likes to take its time before stepping inside the ring, but it's turned up at Computex with its gown off and mouthguard in. Its much-leaked Z-series Fusion APU (aka "Desna") for tablet devices is now official and could well steal some of ARM's thunder. Whereas ARM chips will get along with the next version of Windows, AMD's Z-series is already tuned into the here-and-now. Its integrated dual 1Ghz Bobcat chips and Radeon HD 6250 graphics should allow the full Windows 7 experience on a tablet, from USB peripheral compatibility right down to XBOX 360 Media Extender functionality. What's more, it drinks less than 6W of power so is significantly leaner than the 9W Ontario APU powering Acer's Iconia W500 Windows 7 tablet. Additionally, AMD claims MSI has already made that leap with its new WindPad 110w (though we can't be sure if the pre-release device we just handled was carrying a Z-series chip).

Meanwhile, AMD left any traces of shyness far behind as it went on to confirm plans for a range of A-series and E-series chips with which it hopes to tackle Intel's dominance in the laptop and desktop spheres -- right up to the level of the Core i7. This includes the leaked high-end quad-core A8 and, more surprisingly, a new Trinity APU. Looking way into the future, AMD intends Trinity to be a successor to the mid-range A-series Llano, which isn't even out yet but is expected imminently. Unfortunately we have no concrete specs for the Trinity -- AMD thought it was sufficient to wave the thing around at the press conference and declare it "2012's best APU". Depending on how you look at it, that's either fighting talk or plain posturing.

Amy Winehouse has gone back into rehab

Amy Winehouse has gone back into rehab
The troubled singer ' who has a history of drug addiction and heavy drinking - checked herself London's The Priory clinic earlier this week ' but reportedly stunned onlookers when she bought a small bottle of vodka from a small shop in Southgate, north London, on her way to the facility.

The source said: "She seemed out of it. She was stumbling about, slurring her words.

"I was shocked to see her buy vodka so early in the day, and even more shocked to see her knock it straight back."

Just minutes earlier, she had shocked staff and clients in a local hair salon by bursting in and loudly vomiting in their bathroom.

Customers said she was dressed scruffily in a tracksuit and told staff: "I just puked all over your bathroom."

One told The Sun newspaper: "I felt really sorry for the staff. I think they were too scared to say anything."

Last night (26.05.11) Amy's spokesman denied she had been sick, insisting her comment was a joke, but confirmed she is in rehab.

He said: "Amy's embarked on treatment at The Priory."

Earlier this month, it was reported that the 27-year-old star wants to move to the countryside and start a family with her boyfriend Reg Traviss.

Mariah Carey Child Protection investigation dropped

Mariah Carey Child Protection investigation dropped
The Child Protection Services investigation against Mariah Carey has been dropped.

The singer and husband Nick Cannon - who became parents to son Moroccan Scott and daughter Monroe on April 30 - were shocked when an anonymous tip to the Los Angeles Department of Children and Family (DCFS) accused her of putting the babies at risk by drinking alcohol and taking drugs in her hospital room.

Mariah ' who brought the babies home from hospital two weeks ago - admitted to investigators she drank a Guinness but only on the advice of medical staff who informed her a dark beer would help with lactation.

Laura Wasser ' a lawyer for the singer ' was present during questioning before the DCFS decided not to pursue the matter, website TMZ reports.

Earlier this month, 'America's Got Talent' host Nick explained the couple were shocked at the 'ridiculous' allegations.

He said: "Recently, the Child Protective Services were called with allegations that there was some drinking and drugs and all that going on, wild in the hospital, which makes no sense to me - how would a hospital allow that?

"It all started when a nurse suggested to my wife that if you drink Guinness, the dark beer, the yeast improves breastfeeding. I don't know if someone heard that, but then they were saying my wife was drinking beer. People will do anything to try to conjure up a story.

"I spoke to the person from the Child Protective Services, I was like, 'This is ridiculous. We're going to make sure that this isn't a case.'

"To even have to deal with that, my wife in the state that she's in, we're in the hospital, to even have to think about someone possibly wanting to investigate your children. It's sad at the end of the day."

Called Garbin, the Maserati GT is the project thesis of three students (Jaime Cervantes, Andrea Coccia, and Chetan Rajput) and was developed during their Master’s degree in Transportation and Automobile Design, with a sponsorship from the Fiat Group.

The car inspired by Maserati Ghibli built between 1967 and 1973 they avoid giving the concept a retro design. In the tradition of the Trident brand, the name Garbin comes from a southwesterly summer wind that is encountered in Italy.

The surface language is inspired by the PrivĂ© 2010 Collection by Armani, a fashion design concept that uses overlay luminescent fabrics. “This inspiration was translated into solid surfaces combined with ‘floating’ elements that remind of the Opera Theatre of Valencia, by Calatrava,” the designers explain.

2011 Lamborghini Gallardo LP550-2 Bicolore

Since 2004, Sant'Agata Bolognese has built and bid a fond farewell to more than 10,000 Lamborghini Gallardos. It is the most successful model in brand history by a long shot. The chiseled sports car, with a menacing 5.2-liter V-10 stuffed mid-belly, always directed its 500-plus horsepower to all four wheels.

But in 2009, things changed when Lamborghini created a rear-wheel-drive LP550-2 Valentino Balboni to celebrate the decades-long career of its most vaunted test driver. Much to the chagrin of super-rich Lambo fans looking to get their hands on one, only 250 examples were created.

This year, things have changed once again. Lamborghini has heeded its well-heeled clientele's wishes for an unlimited edition Balboni, creating a new two-wheel-drive bull capable of fulfilling inner drifter fantasies. It is called the Gallardo LP550-2 Bicolore.

"The Bicolore is more demanding," explained Lamborghini America chief operating officer Wolfgang Hoffmann at a pre-test-drive conference. "The four-wheel-drive customer is different than the two-wheel-drive customer."

Indeed, the latter must be a little mad.

Gripping its Alcantara-wrapped wheel tightly on Turn 4 at New York's Monticello Motor Club, I quickly learn that in the 542-horse LP550-2, a rendezvous with a corner demands 24 Hours of Le Mans focus. Get it wrong, and you could send the Bicolore with its 398 pound-feet of torque off into the weeds, or worse, the car could be come a crumpled mess and you immobilized on a stretcher.

Preventing calls to the local medics is always a good thing, so engineers implemented a few upgrades to help you avoid such scenarios. A revised extended nose sucks the car closer to planet Earth and shoves cool air toward the 14-inch, eight-piston brakes. Slightly softer springs and dampers deliver a more civilized ride for daily duty. They also promote stickier grip during the Bicolore's lewd-sounding "Thrust Mode" launches.

Apple brand valued at $153 billion, scoots ahead of Google for first place

Apple

What is the world's most valuable consumer-facing brand? If you'd asked the guys behind the BrandZ survey at any point over the last four years, they'd have told you "Google," but in 2011 their answer has changed. Apple is now the hottest property in terms of consumer goodwill, earning an estimated valuation of $153.3 billion and leading a pack that includes the likes of Coca-Cola, BMW, HSBC, and Disney. The tech sector had a very strong year as a whole, with Facebook's brand improving in value by a staggering 246 percent (to $19.1b) and Amazon becoming the world's most valuable retailer (at $37.6b) in spite of having no actual stores. Sadly, there were some downers too, as Nintendo lost 37 percent of its brand worth over the past year, Nokia dropped by 28 percent, and the BlackBerry marque was considered 20 percent less awesome than before. Punch the source link to learn more.
